In late March or early April 2017, as Crossfire Hurricane was metastasizing into the Mueller inquisition, Democrat operative and Fusion GPS patron and client Dan Jones gave a “write up on Manafort” to the FBI, which, according to Strzok, appeared to be similar to a “20 page single spaced intel report cited similarly to but better than [Steele’s]” that had been seen by CBS News.
I've edited the conclusion. On reflection, FBI had a direct channel to Ukraine SBU, which was then very much under control of US Embassy in Kyiv and the FBI. So Strzok and FBI didn't need Steele and Dan Jones as intermediaries to get Ukraine SBU reports. It remains possible and even likely that, by summer 2017, Steele's new PSS was marketing something similar, but FBI didn't need it.
According to Simpson, it was Chris Steele who hired him to search for Manafort's assets on behalf of Oleg Deripaska, who hired Steele, that began their collaboration in early 2016, before Hillary was Simpson's client. To believe that Orbis and Fusion are going to honor a firewall between client's work out of professionalism is kind of unlikely. Manafort is compromised by Deripaska due to the $19 mil debt liability. Deripaska has the chance to bond with USIC through Ohr's 2015 sanctioned operation to pull away oligarchs from Putin. Orbis is working for USIC, Deripaska and Fusion-HRC all simultaneously. This is a power broker's dream. All we need is for someone to ask Manafort what prompted him to volunteer for the Trump campaign, a position his qualified to be paid for?
Manafort emailed his Deripsaka go-between offering briefings on Trump campaign secrets to "get whole." One also needs to ask Manafort the question of how he thought Trump's internal polls and campaign strategies could be worth $19 mil to Deripaska, unless he had a buyer for that information. What if Simpson never mentioned that he and Steele were working to get Trump campaign information to Hillary? let's say Hillary had some big favors to offer friendly Russian Oligarchs once she got in office. We do know Deripsaka had been paying millions in lobbying to get a US visa for 10 years.
the information WASNT worth $19 million to Deripaska or anyone, nor is there any indication that anyone thought so. It seems pretty certain that their objective was nothing more than showing that Trump was in the race as a means of promoting future business contracts. The information itself was rather commonplace and not of value to an offshore oligarch
Steve, thanks for the reply. I see us to be agreeing with the assumption the information was not worth $19 million, even for weekly personalized reports. This is why Manafort asks the question, "How do we use to get whole." He really doesn't know. One could assume that Deripaska would play both sides of the election bet, if Trump wins Manafort will get him his long sought visa with his influence. If Hillary wins....well nobody I have seen has played this out. What would you do if you were Deripaska? I would use the information, with Steele-Simpson as cut-outs, to offer a favor to HRC, which she could pay back later in approving his visa. He would also have her compromised. If he did put out this offer she would have jumped on it, not only for the information, but to tie Trump to a Russian oligarch.
Manafort knows if he supplied the briefings. If he did, and was not accused of it he might naturally be thinking he got away with it, when really it was HRC and FBI helpers getting away with it. Does anyone know if Manafort knows about the Deripaska-Steele-Ohr connections? After all, Manafort was naïve enough to think Tony Podesta was an old trusted friend regarding Chalupa.
I think this was all ex post facto to create IC background info fed to prosecutors and judge to get a conviction on manafort because it goes farther back than that. I had a friend that died 2 weeks after his third jab a few months ago. He was in the CIA from the early 80’s to around 91 but still had friends in Washington that were connected. He was a rock ribbed conservative Republican. Loved Reagan and hated the Clinton’s. A few weeks after Trump selected Manafort as campaign manager (2016) he started emailing me telling me that Trumps selection of manafort was a signal to the Russians that he was going to be doing their bidding and sellout the US. I told him I could never believe that Trump was a bigger crook than the Clinton’s and even sent him a NYT article about how they profited from the sale of US Uranium assets to Russians. He was unimpressed with my rebuttal. Continued to insist that I “have to vote for the crook”. We talked briefly once after that and never again. I don’t know who recommended Manafort to Trump, but it almost seems to me a plan was hatched long in advance to sabotage Trump using Manafort. Then they had to create the impression that Manafort was dirty as part of the Russia hoax to get at Trump. I watched a long interview of manafort by Patrick Bet David and it does not seem to me that Manafort really understands the Deep State origins of this plan. He understands they went after him to get to Trump or at least make Trump look bad in the media, but not how far back this plan actually went.
It's apparent that Manafort was given the idea he could use the insider knowledge and influence of getting into the Trump campaign leadership since he did not ask for payment. This is not hugely unusual but most time campaign heads get paid. As soon as he got ensconced in early April he sent the message to Konstantine Kiimnick, his Ukrainian-Russian associate, “How do we use to get whole [with Deripaska]?” https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-fix/wp/2017/09/20/paul-manaforts-ominous-email-to-an-aide-how-do-we-use-this-to-get-whole/
It was well established in court documents that Manafort owed Russian oligarch Oleg Deripaska ~10 million. Also, I believe that in Russian Roulette, Corn and Isiskoff's book, Deripaska hired Steele, (looking for assets), before Simpson hired Steele looking for dirt on Trump. This is confirmed circumstantially by Danchenko's statement to the FBI that his first assignment by Steele was to investigate Manafort.
Somebody needs to convince Manafort that he was set up and get him to give an honest account as to what and whom influenced him to join Trump campaign.
